Experts advise changing sunglasses every two years because exposure to sunlight damages the lenses over time and causes them to lose their protection properties from ultraviolet rays. However, your glasses may not last this period due to common mistakes in the daily use of glasses. In this article you will learn 5 useful tips that will extend the life of your glasses.

1- Do not take off your glasses with one hand

One of the common habits we do, whether unconsciously or because we are in a hurry, is to take off our glasses quickly with one hand. In fact, this habit shortens the life of your glasses and makes them fragile and breakable quickly. We advise you to remove the glasses with both hands, thus keeping your glasses protected and intact.

2- Do not hang glasses on your shirt collar or on your head:

The more glasses are placed in an open space when not in use, the more likely they are to be scratched or dropped and thus damaged. Therefore, we advise you not to leave glasses hanging from your shirt collar or to place them on your head, because you may lose sight of them and forget that they are there, and thus they are at risk of falling or being damaged. Instead, store it in its hard case to protect it.

3- Do not clean your glasses with your clothes:

When cleaning glasses, specifically eyeglass lenses, use a piece of microfiber or a tissue intended for glasses, as recommended by opticians, as cleaning glasses with clothes may scratch the surface of the lenses. If this common mistake is repeated, you will have to change the lenses or buy new glasses because you will not be able to see clearly. In the presence of these many scratches on the surface of the lenses and in your visual field.

4- Do not place glasses anywhere with their lenses upside down:

Regardless of whether you think the surface is safe or not, placing your glasses upside down so that their lenses are touching any surface is a serious mistake that could instantly damage your glasses. The surface may be rough or sharp, or the glasses may be run over or dropped. If you do not want to put your glasses in their hard case, we advise you to wear a necklace or glasses cord to protect them from falling or breaking.

5- Pay attention to the parts of the glasses that are weak or missing:

Whether it's missing or loose screws, a flimsy nose pad or a flimsy arm, pay attention to any parts of your glasses, keep the parts that have fallen off and bring them to an optometrist where they can repair them and weigh them again. This way you extend the life of your glasses and they look as new as the first time you wore them.
