Wearing contact lenses for the first time seems scary, why? Because we are afraid of what we do not know.
Enjoy reading and applying the tricks in this article and you will find wearing contact lenses has become very easy.
1- Wash your hands well and dry them:
It may seem intuitive, but this step is considered the most important in the success of the contact lens trial. Be careful not to touch the lenses with your hand without washing them well, to avoid contaminating the lenses, causing eye redness and irritation.
2- Make sure to sterilize contact lenses before and after wearing them:
Place the lens on your clean, dry palm, apply a good amount of lens sterilization solution , and gently rub the lens with your index finger. Follow this method with reusable lenses (for two weeks - monthly) before you wear them, and after you finish them before putting them in their case, then immerse them in lens solution as recommended by optometrists.
Note: Daily lens users can ignore this step.
3- Make sure your nails are short:
Contact lenses are made of very fine materials. It is best to avoid long nails when handling them to avoid scratching or damaging them. Therefore, an optometrist advises you to cut your nails before wearing lenses.
4- Do not shower, do not sleep, and do not continue wearing it for longer than the allotted time:
Some people may forget to remove contact lenses before showering, and some may not know the importance of removing them before that. The water used for bathing contains contaminants that transmit pathogens and may infect your eyes. Therefore, we advise you to remove the lenses before showering and then wear them again when finished to maintain the health of your eyes.
What opticians struggle most with is educating contact lens users and warning them about the danger of sleeping without removing them. Contact lenses are designed to see better and clearer, so why wear them while sleeping! You should let the parts of your eyes rest, such as the cornea, as sleeping without removing the lenses causes giant papillary conjunctivitis. Specialists recommend wearing contact lenses for a maximum of 10 hours a day, while recommending eye rest two days a week. Also, do not continue wearing lenses longer than the allotted period. For example: daily lenses must be disposed of at the end of the day and replaced with new ones the next day.
5- Make sure to have your eyes examined by an optometrist annually:
It is recommended to re-examine your vision once or twice a year to ensure that the size of the contact lenses you use has not changed and to keep your prescription updated according to what your eyes best need.
