How to protect your child's eyes from lazy eye

Prepared by: Rachel Spaly

What is lazy eye?

Laziness is language: not wanting to work or expend energy.

Each eye works like a camera, and needs a stimulus, which is light that passes through the visual field to the cornea, then to the lens, then to the light-sensitive retina. Then the retina translates the image into nerve signals that are sent to the brain, where the latter combines the signals from each eye to form And perception of the image we see.

Lazy eye occurs when there is a defect in the brain connections responsible for vision, and it is a condition that affects children when vision is in the stage of growth and development.

Discovery:

Lazy eye is very difficult to detect, so we hope this article will help you catch this condition early!

From 0-4 years old:

This age is important for the development of children's eyes. During these years, vision should be examined by an ophthalmologist or ophthalmologist specializing in pediatrics.

At home:

Follow the following warning signs

1- Strabismus: a tilt in one eye inward, outward, upward, or downward when the child looks forward.

2- Myopia: When your child watches television from a short distance, for example.

3- Cataracts: The appearance of blurry spots in the lens behind the iris.

4- Head tilt: Track your child’s head movement when he watches TV or uses a tablet or smartphone. You will notice that he tilts his head. This may be evidence of a deviation in vision.

Coverage and detection test:

Cover each eye one at a time. Your child will be upset when you cover the good eye, but he will not react when you cover the lazy eye.

protection:

Since lazy eye occurs during the developmental stage, early detection and treatment as soon as possible is the best way to prevent lazy eye. We also advise you to provide foods that help your child to have healthy vision, such as foods rich in vitamin A.

treatment:

Your eye doctor will recommend the following treatments:

- Eye patch : This means covering the healthy eye to stimulate the lazy eye to work properly.

- Eye drops: Their function is to make the vision in the healthy eye blurry to stimulate the lazy eye to work again.

- Cataract treatment: Treating the cataract-affected lens and thus removing the obstruction from the path of vision.

- Glasses : to correct vision defects and muscular imbalance (strabismus).

Treating lazy eye is a long and gradual journey, which may extend to months or years, so we advise you to be patient and follow your doctor’s instructions carefully.
